Buzios, Brazil
Buzios is a fishermen’s city located 3 hours’ drive out of Rio de Janeiro. It got on the map in the 60ies when a French actor came to visit and fell in love with the small city. Afterward, it became more of a tourist location, with many beautiful beaches filled with beach chairs and bars. Buzios is also a safe city, where you don’t have to watch your bag every moment.
On a Rainy day, Downtown.
Well, the Breakfast at the hotel was not something to mention, as it was dry bread and eggs, expired butter, and dry or soggy cakes. However, the coffee was fine, and there were a lot of fruits, which is one thing I’ve enjoyed with our breakfast so far.
The weather was rainy, so today was not a beach day. Therefore, we chose to go for a stroll in the city; the waterfront had a lot of different statues located at the pier and one in the water of some fishermen. Furthermore, the downtown area was made of cobblestone roads filled with cafés, restaurants, and shops. We found a small place in a side alley, here we had a Portugisian Pizza with eggs, onion, and sage and seafood risotto with a couple of caipirinhas.
Afterward, our legs still said go home and rest; since the weather wasn’t getting any better, that was what we did.
Here comes the sun
The next day was happily bright and sunny, so we went to the beach! Here we meet up with an acquaintance of ours. He recommended going to the beach called Joao Fernandes, located a little Furter, but it was lovely! We Found a chair, found a caipirinha, and just enjoyed it. We’d also brought our goggles and snorkel. Rick showed us all the right places to swim, and we found more than seven statues underneath the water and tons of beautifully colored fish; it was magnificent! Foodwise it was all about snacks; salespeople came by all the time with food, ice cream, clothes, and drinks, so you didn’t have to get up at all. We tried a dulce de leche ball. There even was an ice cream boat floating around.
Grey is back
Our last full day was again a grey day, but a least not rainy. When you are in a beach city, it is hard to find activities on grey days; we spent it again exploring foods and drinking caipirinhas. There we had the most exciting crepes; we ordered 3, one with beef and bechamel, one with chicken and gorgonzola, and the weirdest banana, cheese, and cinnamon. The last one is not a combo I can recommend; it’s just too exciting, cheese and banana.. however fun to try, and probably not the last time we are trying something weird.
When I travel, I always get so full of impressions that I tend to go to bed early, but if you are a night person, the city awakens when we go home, all the shops open up, and cafes start filling up with people; I guess I’m not ready to call myself a south American yet.
See you next time in Foz Do Iguacu, a city split between three countries.
